The science of simple living: beginner level.
Why would you like to simplify your life?
First, the decision must come from YOU and nobody else. No one can impose it on you. Not even your mama. We have been talking about what does it mean to simplify life previously here and here are 3 things you can do today to immediately simplify your life.
Secondly, after the decision is taken you might want slowly replacing old thinking patterns with new ones, implement better food in your diet, embracing the NOW, cut down bad habits and introduce these that are good for you mind-body-soul trinity.
Over past years I spoke with many people about the super broad topic called LIVE. Came up with the conclusion. All of my interviewers were going trough some turbulence in their life prior to their lifestyle change. All have experienced unexpected happening that changed their perception of life itself forever. Like a new person was born.
Now we’re coming to the moment I’m uncertain if this is right thing to do or not but somehow I see deeper sense of what will be written here as in an online world we connect to people and their stories when they resonate with us.
Few years back I went through a life turbulence myself. Making long story short, spend many days in bed, tremendously lost weight and self-confidence, than shortly after another dark moment in my personal life occurred. Without going into details I want to share this aha moments like: shortly after health breakdown when the doctor suggested “changing lifestyle and going to yoga” while being highly skeptical, I have started to look at different nutritional information, reading about food, watching Jamie Oliver programs, talking about food and everything else food related. And at this time I could eat only yogurt, imagine 🙂 It occurred to me what food habits I must replace and more important what thinking patters I have followed (I still do, this is a process and needs time and lot of patience). I looks like it’s inner travel with ups and downs that I undertaken but I mostly enjoy it.
WARNING: this is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight or even years. Sometimes much more time is needed. Don’t be hard on yourself. We are individuals with different stories, needs, experiences, backgrounds. Patience is the key. Ta daaam, so simple.
If you wonder where the heck is that recipe mentioned in the title of this post keep scrolling it is below, right after bunch of pictures that are mainly green leafs, bushes, rays of light and Spanish white village as a synonym of slowing down 🙂
Now since you have seemed to survive reading this post till now, there is a reward. I tell you how I reduced sugar intake in my food. Cool reward, right? Started with baby steps, eliminating white sugar. I mean like really eliminating, from cupboard, table, shopping list. No mercy. Bonus: more space. To sweeten hot beverages or baking purposes you can use:
- pure maple syrup
- agave syrup
- raw honey
- date syrup (my absolute favorite!)
- plus dates for baking, especially Medjool dates, super soft and sweet (these are rich in fiber, potassium, manganese, copper to name a few)
CONFESSION: I like chocolate. This one I like a lot. No, they do not sponsor this post. But they could!
Sometimes you will have apiece of cake or donut. You won’t die because of it. But If you maintain 2 weeks without sugar at all you will definitely reduce Snickers cravings! But be gentle to yourself, to many restrictions at once will kill your enthusiasm, so start small, one sugar spoon at a time and gradually the change is done.
Here is a simple recipe for you. No bake, no massive prep, no large shopping list. Healthy snack for kids and grownups.
Luxury bliss balls (oh là là!) ingredients, makes about 20:
- about 10 Medjool dates, pitted
- about 3 tbs of hemp hearts
- about 5 tbs rolled oats
- 1 tbs coconut oil
- 2 tbs raw cacao
- 2 tbs shredded coconut
Give it a go in food processor adding some water to gather it all together, put it to the fridge for 5 min and then form balls. Additionally you can roll them in raw cacao powder, hemp harts or coconut. Or not. Up to you. 🙂 Notice: you can modify the amount of ingredients depending on desired quantity.
